Cleaning your home with Apple Cider Vinegar

Cleaning your home with Apple Cider Vinegar

The health benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar are fairly well documented, but did you know that people have been using the natural powers of apple cider vinegar for cleaning their homes for years?

Naturally antifungal and antibacterial, apple cider vinegar is the perfect alternative to harsh chemicals. Take a look at some of the things that ACV can be used for around your house.

  1. Cleaning counters and stovetops:
Mix 1 part vinegar and 1 part water to create a cleaning solution for the entire kitchen. Use it to wipe down counters and appliances worry-free. The diluted solution stops the acid in the vinegar eating away surfaces or dulling their shine. It can also be used to de-grease your stove and disinfect your fridge inside and out.
  2. Remove stains from coffee cups and wine glasses:
Add a 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar to your dishwasher cycle to remove stains on your crockery and glassware.
  3. Clean and deodorise your dishwasher:
Add a 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar to your empty dishwasher and run a rinse cycle. Make sure you run the cycle without dishes or additional soap inside the machine.
  4. Bathtub mildew:
Depending on the severity of your mildew problem, use apple cider vinegar on its own or dilute with a bit of water and scrub the affected area. You can even add some essential oils to make the bathroom smell fresh.
  5. Unblock drains:
Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain followed by 1 cup of vinegar and a cup of hot water. Wait 15 minutes and rinse it all down with boiling water.
  6. Clean Toilets:
Get rid of unwanted stains in your toilet bowl by pouring a 1/4 cup of vinegar into the toilet bowl and allow to sit for 20 minutes. Use a toilet brush to loosen the grime and flush.
  7. Remove candle wax from wooden tables or counters:
Wait for the candle wax to dry and become brittle before scraping it off with a spatula or bank card. Dilute 1 part apple cider vinegar with 10 parts warm water and use a dishcloth to gently rub the remaining residue from the surface.
  8. De-streak your windows:
Mix 1 part vinegar and 1 part water to create a cleaning solution that can be used to wash and de-streak your windows. The same solution can be used to wash down your walls.
  9. Remove water stains:
Get rid of unwanted water stains from glasses on your side tables by rubbing undiluted apple cider vinegar onto the area.
  10. Carpet stains:
Mix 2 tablespoons of salt with 2 tablespoons the vinegar and rub it into the stain(s) before vacuuming it all away. It's always a good idea to test this on a small area of your carpet to ensure no there is no colour loss.
  11. Cleaning out your washing machine:
Add 2 cups of apple cider vinegar as you would detergent and let the machine run without any clothes. Add 1 cup of vinegar to each load of laundry to make washing cleaner, odour and germ-free.
